As the growing season goes into nonstop activity — planting, weeding, cutting, post-harvest care, making bouquets and delivering — I realize I haven’t posted anything in a while. Not even to crow about our new hoophouse! I’m so excited to finally have this means of extending my season. I’ll be growing things that many florists want for weddings and other events but that don’t winter over here, such as dusty miller and eucalyptus, plus I’ll get an earlier start on snapdragons, lisianthus, ammi, larkspur, and sunflowers. And I plan to grow anemone and ranunculus for the first time. We’re just now getting the hoophouse (some people call it a high tunnel) ready with drip irrigation and landscape fabric with pre-burned holes spaced at 6″, 9″ or 12″. I’ll be starting hardy annual seeds soon, to plant in the hoophouse when they are ready in 6-10 weeks. Wish me luck!
P.S. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Tunnel Vision Tunnel Vision for the expert installation, and the great company for a few days!
